Simon of Cyrene and the Centurion
The butterfly effect is a concept that describes how small, seemingly insignificant changes in the initial conditions of a complex system can lead to vastly different outcomes over time. Christians reject this concept because we know that we serve a God that Sovereign and in control at all times, the wings of a butterfly do not deter God’s plan. Everything happens for a reason. So why bring up the butterfly effect?---What if--- What if something in your life would have been just a little bit different. What if you would have left work just a few minutes later, then that person who ran the stop sign would not have hit you. What if you weren’t walking down the hall of your dorm at that exact moment, you might have never met your spouse. What if Simon of Cyrene would have been standing half a block over while Jesus came by on his way to Golgotha, would we even know his name? What about the centurion at the earthquake on the Good Friday? If he would have been assigned another detail or person to guard that day, would we have mention of him? God only knows, but praise be to God we do know and praise be to God that he reaches those far away. Like Simon, the centurion, me, and you, God makes us part of His great plan not so we can be known but that others can know Him through us. Well, if you haven’t guessed this week we are looking at Simone of Cyrene and the centurion at the crucifixion and how God reached them and used their stories for the sake of the Gospel.
