Don't Rest on Yesterday
"Why do you doubt?" What a great question from Jesus. I think that if we all took a turn at answering this question we would be amazed at the variety of answers. Jesus was not suggesting that they doubted that He was the Savior. Their doubts were about the here and now. They were doubting that He could or would rescue them from their circumstance or we might say that they doubted His provision for them at the moment.
Yes, I encounter those who doubt their faith (that Jesus has truly saved them), but the doubts that I run into the most are that Jesus is truly with them, especially during a hurtful time when they cannot understand why things do not seem to be going their way. If you are like me then circumstances can swarm on you, overwhelm you so that what was not a problem yesterday is suddenly a huge problem today. They seem to come out of nowhere. Here is something to think about for Sunday: you do not need tomorrow's faith for today, but you cannot survive on yesterday's faith today. Can anyone say, "one day at a time?"
