When His Will Becomes Mine

I remember hearing this for the first time in my teenage years: “Don’t let your alligator mouth overload your hummingbird rearend.” I think we all understand the meaning here: “If you cannot back it up, then do not say it.” This week in Matthew 26:35, Peter tells the Lord Jesus that he is willing to die for Him. The other disciples voice their agreement with Peter, meaning that they, too, are willing to die for Jesus. What is the problem? Within a couple of hours of making that pledge, they will not even stay awake to pray for Jesus. This takes me back to the many times when I have pledged that I “would never” or that I would “always.” What am I saying? My actions have often not lived up to my words, even though I was sincere when I spoke them. Join us this week as we take a hard look at the disciples and ourselves.
