Treasure, Truth, and the Boss

If I were to ask you this question: “Where do you keep your treasure?” What would you say? In my safe, in the bank, under my mattress, or maybe you have so much that you would keep your treasure in multiple locations. A few might even say, “None, of your business, Bill.” In Matthew 6, Jesus is quite clear: where your treasure is, your heart is already there. What a statement: my heart determines what I treasure, and I have a treasure because my heart has decided to treasure that thing (s). Our passage in Matthew 6 does not teach that material wealth is bad, but it does warn against earthly treasure being our focus. Why? Earthly treasure can be lost in numerous ways. How many stocks in your lifetime (that everyone is buying) have been “couldn’t miss stocks” as far as building wealth? Some of them paid off, but some of them no longer even exist. How about Enron, Sears, Blockbuster, or Kodak, is anyone still counting on them?
